Creative Saskatchewan welcomes status quo investment into film production
After an unprecedented busy couple of years for Saskatchewan’s film industry, the sector is pleased with the Government of Saskatchewan’s announcement of status quo funding ($12 million) in the provincial budget for film and television production.
“We’re incredibly happy with the economic impacts that our support for the film sector has resulted in this past year,” says Erin Dean, CEO of Creative Saskatchewan, and the official film commission for the province. With last year’s support, 19 productions have been funded, generating an economic impact of approximately $46.3 million. “Productions produce jobs, have big budgets to spend in the province, and attract external investment. Another $12 million investment is expected to result in at least another $50.1 million in positive economic outputs, and over 500 new jobs.” explains Dean. Creative Saskatchewan’s Feature Film and TV Production Grant supports Saskatchewan expenditures, ensuring that every cent remains in the province.
The continued support for the program sends a message that the Government backs Saskatchewan’s film industry.
