GRANT OVERVIEW

This grant augments other resources available to qualified Saskatchewan production companies as they undertake one of 4 different streams of film and tv development.

 

IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE

To provide producers with enhanced support in response to financial challenges created by COVID-19, film development grants will temporarily permit related-party transactions to be included in eligible expenses. ​ 

FOUR INVESTMENT STREAMS

Pre-Development Stream 

  • Assists with costs related to concept-to-outline writing and creation of pitching materials required to present to broadcasters and other financiers

  • Applications are assessed by a jury of industry professionals.

  •  Opens May 10, 2021 at 12pm
     Deadlines:
    October 1, 2021 at 4pm
    February 15, 2022 at 4pm

First Draft Stream

  • Assists with costs related to continuing development (e.g. taking a script treatment to an outline or first draft) of projects that have secured development monies from a eligible source (e.g. broadcaster or distributor)

  • First and Final Draft Development streams will be offered on a first-come first-served basis and supported based on the availability of funds.

  • Applicants and their parent companies are limited to two First or Final Draft Development grants (or combination thereof) per fiscal year.

  • Opens May 10, 2021 at 12pm
     

Final Draft Stream

  • Assists with costs related to continuing development (e.g. script polish, and pre-production activities) of projects that have secured development monies from an eligible source (e.g. broadcaster or distributor)

  • First and Final Draft Development streams will be offered on a first-come first-served basis and supported based on the availability of funds.

  • Applicants and their parent companies are limited to two First or Final Draft Development grants (or combination thereof) per fiscal year.

  • Opens May 10, 2021 at 12pm

Slate Development Stream

  • Assists with costs related to development of two to five eligible film or television projects with the potential to leverage development financing from other funding agencies and the private sector

  • Applications are assessed by a jury of industry professionals.

  •  Opens May 10, 2021 at 12pm
     Deadline: February 15, 2022 at 4pm

If a deadline falls on a statutory holiday or a weekend, applications will be accepted until 4pm the following business day.

SASKATCHEWAN PRODUCTION REQUIREMENT

Dramatic projects receiving development funds must repay the investment if production takes place outside Saskatchewan; and for non-dramatic projects, where less than 50% post-production takes place in Saskatchewan.

OFFICIAL GRANT GUIDELINES


  • All applicants must read the Official Grant Guidelines. The official guidelines supercede all information contained elsewhere on this website, delivered to applicants by Program Officers, or otherwise made publicly available.




AFTER YOU'RE APPROVED


50% of the approved funds are provided to successful applicants when they sign the letter of agreement. The remaining 50% of the funds are delivered after the project is complete, and we've approved your final report.

As explained in the General Program Guidelines your application will be assessed by specific criteria in three categories

  • Experience & Capacity

APPLICATION PROCESSING TIME


Applicants can expect to receive results within 8 weeks from deadline date.
Results will be delivered via e-mail, and will be available in GMS.
