Two New Grants For Emerging Filmmakers
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUG 16, 2017
Creative Saskatchewan is excited to announce two new grants for Saskatchewan’s screen-based media creators. These grants will help skilled screen-based media professionals take a significant step forward on their career path to commercial success.
“These new grants will give Saskatchewan filmmakers new opportunities to develop their craft and set the stage for commercial success,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. “The grants will help Saskatchewan filmmakers establish themselves in front of audiences and influential entertainment industry insiders."
These two new grants are now open and accepting applications:
MICRO BUDGET FEATURE FILM GRANT
This grant is an investment in emerging filmmakers to complete their first feature length projects. “This new support for micro-budget projects gives emerging Saskatchewan filmmakers the opportunity to sharpen skills, create quality entertainment, and build their careers,” said Lioz Bouganin, Chair of Saskatchewan Media Production Industry Association (SMPIA). “SMPIA recommended that Creative Saskatchewan offer micro-budget support, and we’re excited to see it become a reality.” Up to $50,000 per project is available.
WEB SERIES PRODUCTION GRANT
This grant is an investment in screen-based media producers to create short-form content that can test the limits of established genres and attract interest from TV broadcasters looking to purchase new shows. Web series projects also serve as excellent professional development opportunities for emergent film and TV production teams. A web series can be a significant stepping stone toward a lifelong screen-based media career. Up to $10,000 per project is available.
“Both grants were specifically developed to meet the challenges of the rapidly evolving screen-based media sector,” said Greg Magirescu, CEO of Creative Saskatchewan. “Our Web Series and Micro-Budget Production grants fuel the next generation of Saskatchewan filmmakers to complete their first projects, establish professional reputations, and open up market opportunities.”
