2018-19 Grant Programs Overview


Creative Saskatchewan is pleased to announce details of its 2018-19 suite of grant programs.

Grant Opening Dates Listed below are the dates grants will open to applicants. None of our grants open on the date of today's announcement, April 16.

Changes for 2018-19 We've noted the most significant changes that have been made to each grant program this fiscal year, including some new grant names. For complete details, click on the grant name.

Online Grant Management System (GMS) Several of our grants will now accept applications via our new Online Grant Management System. GMS compatible grants are identified below. Grants not active on GMS will continue accepting applications via e-mail.

Revised Investment Fund Guide We've revised our Investment Fund Guide (IFG) which contains important information that applies to ALL grants. If you notice long-standing guidelines missing from specific grants, they may have been moved to the IFG. A link to the IFG is available on every grant web page.

2018-19 Grant Opening Schedule, Revisions and GMS Status

Book Publishing Production Grant

Opens

  • May 14, 2018

What's New

  • new name (formerly known as the Creative Industries Production Grant) with improved detail specific to the publishing sector

  • books published with costs covered by the author are no longer eligible

  • publishers must publish a minimum number of eligible books each year to apply

  • books with support from Canada Book Fund may be eligible for "fast-track" approval without jury adjudication

  • reprints no longer eligible

Business Capacity Grant

Opens

  • May 21, 2018

The Business Capacity Grant will be closed to Music sector applicants this fiscal year.

Craft & Visual Arts Production Grant

Opens

  • May 14, 2018

What's New

  • new name (formerly known as the Creative Industries Production Grant) with improved details specific to the craft & visual arts sector

  • applicants with sales agreements in place with 5 or more retailers/galleries may be eligible for "fast-track" approval, rather than waiting for a jury evaluation

  • up to 15% of the production budget can be earmarked for marketing activity, and can be supported by this grant

Feature Film Production Grant

Opens

  • April 30, 2018

What's New

  • new name (formerly known as the Screen-Based Media Production Grant) with improved details specific to feature film production

  • feature films must be a minimum of 75 minutes in length

  • up to 10% of the grant may be used to support eligible marketing activities

  • applications will only be accepted via GMS

Film and TV Development Grant

Opens

  • FIRST DRAFT and FINAL DRAFT streams: July 16, 2018

  • SLATE stream: Sept 4, 2018

  • PRE-DEVELOPMENT STREAM: closed this fiscal year

What's New

  • new name (formerly known as the Screen-Based Media Content Development Grant)

  • SLATE stream will open; it was closed last year

  • Slate stream will be juried this year; it had previously been processed by Creative Saskatchewan staff

  • PRE-DEVELOPMENT stream will not open this year

  • up to 15% of the production budget can be earmarked for marketing activity, and can be supported by this grant

  • applications will only be accepted via GMS

Interactive Digital Media Grant

Opens

  • TBD

What's New

  • after last year's pilot project, we will consult with stakeholders in coming weeks to refine the program

  • we expect to open a revised Interactive Digital Media Grant before the end of 2018

Live Performing Arts Production Grant

Opens

  • Nov 6, 2018

What's New

  • new name (formerly known as the Creative Industries Production Grant) with improved details specific to the live performing arts sector

  • only the refinement of existing productions to expand commercial potential is supported

  • applicants must have been in business for at least two years to be eligible

Market Travel Grant

Opens

  • Apr 23, 2018

What's New

  • airfare and event registration fees that are paid before applying are now considered eligible expenses

  • ​final reports must now include all receipts for all expenses claimed

  • applications will only be accepted via GMS

Market & Export Development Grant

Opens

  • May 7, 2018*

*Note of clarification: this grant was closed to Screen-Based Media applicants last year. That restriction remains in place this year. (Note of clarification added April 18)

*Note this grant is closed to Interactive Digital applicants this year.

Micro-Budget Production Grant

Opens

  • Nov 6, 2018

What's New

  • Micro-Budget productions that start and finish principal photography between Apr 1, 2018 and Nov 6, 2018 may now apply for support for post-production expenses

  • only post-production expenses incurred after date of application are eligible

  • applications will only be accepted via GMS

Research Grant

Opens

  • May 21, 2018

The Research Grant will be closed to Music sector applicants this fiscal year.

SaskTel Equity Fund

Opens

  • TBD

What's New

  • applications will only be accepted via GMS

Sound Recording Grant

Opens

  • May 14, 2018

What's New

  • Demo, Full-Length, and Single recordings are more clearly defined

  • EP support added​

  • Full-Length support increased to $15,000 max​

  • EP and Full-Length projects that have secured FACTOR funding may now be "fast-tracked" and approved without jury adjudication​

  • juries now consider applications twice each year​

Television Production Grant

Opens

  • April 30, 2018

What's New

  • new name (formerly known as the Screen-Based Media Production Grant) with improved details specific to television production

  • applications will only be accepted via GMS

Tour Support Grant

Opens

  • April 30, 2018

What's New

  • new name (formerly known as the Performing Arts Tour Support Grant)

  • applicants who have secured FACTOR funding for their tour may now be "fast-tracked" and approved without jury adjudication
