Our Annual Report, “Unlocking Creative Profitability” is now available.
You can meet many of the creative entrepreneurs we invested in right here.
Here’s one of our favourite stories, about our investment in Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan.
Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan in Saskatoon had an ambitious idea they wanted to bring to life in the summer of 2017.
They intended to stage Twelfth Night with Shakespeare's lyrics - set to bluegrass music.
"With the support of a Creative Industries Production Grant, we were able to engage Musical Director Robert Grier, and Music Consultant Wyndham Thiessen," said Artistic Director, Will Brooks.
"With the assistance of these two, as well as the additional workshop time made possible with the grant, they composed, created, sourced, and arranged custom bluegrass tunes to the original Shakespeare lyrics. The music was entirely customized to fulfil our very specific vision, and to meet the unique needs of this particular production.”
“The long-term success of our organization rests on being able to invest in stagecraft in ways that draw audiences, expand our reach, and give us long term financial stability.”
The outcomes of this production were incredible. The music was a huge topic of conversation all over Saskatoon, creating significant marketing buzz.
Audiences clamoured for tickets, sparking a grand total of 25 sellout crowds.
“The long-term success of our organization rests on being able to invest in stagecraft in ways that draw audiences, expand our reach, and give us long term financial stability,” Brooks said. “Each time we can have a financial success like this, our financial stability increases and generates future opportunities.”
