FAQ – COVID-19 and Grant Recipients/Applicants

Creative Saskatchewan grant recipients/applicants may undertake projects now impacted by the worldwide response to COVID-19. This FAQ is intended to clarify how Creative Saskatchewan will assess funded/proposed projects involving cancelled events, travel restrictions and other possible measures connected to COVID-19.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any inquiries. A Program Officer will be please to offer clarification. T: 306-798-9800 TF: 800-561-9933 investment@creativesask.ca

Q: I have received a Creative Saskatchewan grant for travel. Am I still permitted to use those funds to travel?

A: Yes. Creative Saskatchewan urges all travel grant recipients to cancel travel plans, but the decision to travel, and to accept the associated risks, remains the responsibility of the grant recipient. Creative Saskatchewan grants are never increased after approval, so all extra costs that may be incurred for any reason, including COVID-19 restrictions, will not be funded. Creative Saskatchewan recommends that any grant recipient choosing to travel consult saskatchewan.ca/coronavirus for the latest updates on COVID-19. The Government of Canada also maintains a travel advice page.

Q: I just received a travel grant, and I haven’t booked my flights yet. Can I use the grant to pay for travel insurance?

A: Under normal circumstances, no. However, Creative Saskatchewan will temporarily allow travel insurance as an eligible expense.

Q: I’ve recently received a grant to travel to a country now under a Travel Health Notice related to the coronavirus. I’m not going to travel, and now I can’t get reimbursed for some or all of my expenses. Will I have to pay back the full amount of the grant?

A: No. You will be expected to pay back the unspent amount of the grant. You will be expected to report on the grant funds you spent, and why those funds were not recoverable.

Q: My grant was to attend an event now cancelled because of COVID-19. I can’t get reimbursed for some or all of my expenses. Will I have to pay back the full amount of the grant?

A: No. You will be expected to pay back the unspent amount of the grant. You will be expected to report on the grant funds you spent, and why those funds were not recoverable.

Q: I’ve got a grant involving travel, but I’ve got flexibility to postpone. Am I allowed to do this?

A: Maybe. Creative Saskatchewan will consider rescheduled projects as long as the primary intent of the project remains the same. You’ll need approval from Creative Saskatchewan. Contact a Program Officer.

Q: Expenses for my project are climbing because of COVID-19. Can I get additional funding?

A: No. Grant funding provided to any recipient to undertake a project can never exceed the originally approved amount.

Q: I’m travelling right now using Creative Saskatchewan grant funding. I’m incurring expenses related to COVID-19. Are these eligible expenses?

A: Probably. Unexpected costs of travel can be eligible expenses as long as they are connected to the project you are undertaking. However, Creative Saskatchewan can not provide funds in excess of the originally approved amount.
