SaskMusic has teamed up with Alberta Music, Music BC, Manitoba Music, and Breakout West to host a private showcase at the Folk Alliance International Conference this weekend. Over 2,900 delegates will gather in New Orleans January 22-26 to connect folk music leaders and engage the global folk music community. As the leading International voice for folk music with a global network of more than 3,000 members world-wide, Folk Alliance International has been bringing together folk musicians and industry professionals since its founding in 1989.
Through the Market Travel Grant, Creative Saskatchewan is supporting the attendance of four Saskatchewan music acts at the conference. Poor Nameless Boy, The North Sound, Valerie Raye, and Gunner and Smith will each be showcasing in the BreakOut West showcase room. In addition to the BreakOut West showcase, Poor Nameless Boy has also been selected for an official FAI showcase. For these musicians each showcase performance is the chance for industry professionals from around the world to get a taste of their music and open up opportunities in new markets.
