Making plans at M for Montreal
Updated: May 4
This past November Saskatoon singer Alex Bent took his solo project, Alex Bent + The Emptiness, to M for Montreal. Taking place amongst Montreal’s word-class music scene, M for Montreal is a music conference and festival held each year for industry professionals to mix with artists. Alex Bent + The Emptiness had dual opportunity, showcasing songs from his albums Vanilla Blue and Baby and also participating in workshops and networking events.
“Events such as the Speedschmooze and MX Lounge: Meet the Music Supervisors were extremely valuable from a business perspective. I left the festival having made important connections with many of the delegates I interacted with and overall M for Montreal provided an experience that helped further shape my plans for 2020 and gain insight into the current happenings of the music industry. “ –Alex Bent
Taking what he learned from M for Montreal, Alex Bent + The Emptiness has big plans so far for 2020. Throughout the year he will be taking part in more showcasing events, promoting Baby, and releasing three singles.
Creative Saskatchewan invested in Alex Bent + The Emptiness’ success at M for Montreal through the Market Travel Grant.
“Being an independent artist, funding these kinds of opportunities becomes extremely difficult between working a full-time job and other personal responsibilities. I would not have been able to continue to pursue my career in music and take the necessary time away from my job without this investment.“
