 NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

GRANT OVERVIEW

This grant helps Saskatchewan's publishing entrepreneurs cover production costs of commercially viable books. To successfully claim this grant, applicants will either present a solid track record of commercial publishing success or, for less established applicants, convince a jury of the commercial viability of a particular book.

DEADLINE INFORMATION

ELIGIBLE CREATIVE SECTORS

This grant invests exclusively in the book publishing sector.

Applicants from other creative sectors seeking production investments should refer to the following grants:

COVID-19 UPDATE

To provide publishers with improved access to this grant while facing financial pressures associated with COVID-19:

  • a restriction on the number of “reprint titles” has been temporarily removed

  • a restriction that prevented applicants from including both an administration fee and in-house expenses in their project budget has been temporarily removed

OUR INVESTMENT

The grant covers up to 50% of eligible costs of book production including: printing, graphic design, editing and more.

TWO STREAMS OF INVESTMENT

Publishers must apply to the appropriate grant stream based on their publishing activity during the two years preceding the date of application. For more information on how to determine your stream click here.

"Three or More" Stream:

  • for established corporations or individuals who are publishing three or more books each year

  • applications are not juried

  • applications are processed on a first-come first-served basis until available funds are fully invested

  • there are no application deadlines for the "Three or More" stream

  • applications are evaluated based on the applicant's track record of commercial success

  • no applicant may receive more than $125,000 per fiscal year

"Fewer Than Three" Stream:

  • for applicants publishing fewer than three books per year

  • a jury of publishing experts will assess each application for commercial viability

  • there are application deadlines for the "Fewer than Three" stream; upcoming deadlines are posted above

  • no applicant may receive more than $15,000 per fiscal year (with the exception of projects involving illustration or photography, see guidelines for details)

  • results will be delivered to applicants within 10 weeks of the posted application deadline

Note for both streams:

  • if an author covers any portion of the costs of production in either stream, the author must be the grant applicant
