Autopilot Makes Connections at the Departure Festival
Marlon Harder of the band Autopilot successfully applied for our Showcase or Sell Travel Grant, allowing the band to travel to Toronto for the Departure festival.
Autopilot is a progressive, experimental band with captivating pop hooks, memorable vocal lines, and out of the ordinary touches like a bow used on the guitar, layers of guitar effects, and dynamic drum beats.
At the festival, the band showcased in front of a live audience and had days of attending conferences on topics such as how music is chosen for TV shows, what radio might be like in the future, and new social media trends.
Harder and his bandmates spent time networking with their publicist, who introduced them to influential figures in the music industry. They connected with venue owners to explore future bookings, chatted with label representatives, and met fellow musicians to plan potential collaborations. The conference also gave them the chance to attend showcases featuring other talented Saskatchewan artists. By the end of the event, Autopilot had earned spots on several Spotify playlists, marking a successful trip.
“We are very grateful for the funding we received from Creative Saskatchewan as it gave us the opportunity to make new industry connections, build relationships with industry we’ve met previously, and connect with other artists.”
