The city of Moose Jaw does not have a dedicated film permit. Instead, the city issues Street Closure permits. This is the best mechanism to close a roadway for filming purposes.
The application can be found here. Anything not applicable can be noted with “N/A.”
The application must include the following supporting documentation:
Important: Any businesses or property owners affected by the closure must be notified by the applicant in advance.
Applications and supporting documents are submitted to contactoperations@moosejaw.ca. The Dispatcher will review the application to ensure that all supporting documentation is included before passing it on to Roadways, Transit, and Parks and Recreation divisions for approval.
Applications should be submitted at least 14 calendar days in advance to allow for approvals. Shorter notice can be coordinated through the Transit line 306-694-4488.
Once the application has been approved, the Dispatcher will let the applicant know via email and will send an approval letter with additional information for record-keeping.
The city of Moose Jaw has barricades and some road closure signage available for applicants to borrow if needed. Directions on how to arrange to pick up from the City Complex will be included in the approval letter.
Anyone engaged in commercial filming on public property typically needs a permit.
General Liability Insurance for up to $5 million is standard, listing the desired city as an additional insured.
If applicable, you may also be required to submit a map of the desired filming locations.
14 calendar days, but the application may be expedited if enough information is provided, and communication is clear.
Sooner is always better. 10-14 business days is standard to process the application.
There are no direct fees applied to a film permit. However, if the filming happens in a city owned park or facility, the applicable charges for renting the park or facility would be applied.
Additional fees may be charged for any public service, such as road closures.
Generally, you do not need a permit to film on private property, but you must have the property owner’s written permission.
The public must be notified within 48 hours in advance of your arrival, including prep days. A Letter of Notification to the public is the standard notification. A template is available for download here.
