Craft & Visual Arts Production
This grant invests in eligible Saskatchewan artists and craftspeople producing craft and visual art with commercial intent.
Applications must be in support of the production or refinement of commercially viable, creative products.
A craft product must be the original idea of the craftsperson or a skillfull rendering of a traditional or classic design.
Examples of eligible art or craft products include:
- Basketry and wheat weaving
- Beadwork
- Calligraphy
- Candle making
- Clay and Ceramics
- Fibre Art
- Glass Art
- Jewelry
- Marbling Art
- Metal/Lapidary Art
- Mixed Media
- Painting Art
- Papermaking Art
- Photography
- Note: Photography provided as a service (wedding photography, family portraits, corporate photography, etc.) is not eligible.
- Printmaking
- Sculpture
- Seed Beading
- Woodwork art
If your art or craft form is not included in this list, please reach out to a Program Advisor for clarification.
Deadlines & Processing Time
- Opening date: May 16, 2024
- Deadline: September 4, 2024
All deadlines close at 4:00 PM Saskatchewan time. If a deadline falls on a statutory holiday or a weekend, applications will be accepted until 4:00 PM the following business day.
Application processing time: Applicants can expect to receive results within 10 weeks from the deadline date.
Results will be delivered via e-mail and will be available in GMS
Our Investment
Fast-Tracked Applications
- Applicants (defined below) may apply for a maximum of $20,000 or 50% of the total eligible expenses (whichever is the lesser).
Externally Assessed Applications
- Non-fast tracked applicants may apply for a maximum of $15,000 or 50% of the total eligible expenses (whichever is the lesser).
Please note that in 2022-23, this program had an approval rate of 43% (three out of seven applications were approved).

Craft & Visual Arts Production Guidelines
- The official guidelines supersede all information contained elsewhere on this website, delivered to applicants by Program Advisors, or otherwise made publicly available.
Please note that if ineligible expenses (outlined in the Guidelines above) exceed 50% of the project budget, the application will be deemed ineligible.
Activities that receive funding from SK Arts or SaskCulture are not eligible for support through Creative Saskatchewan investment programs.
Application Tips & Process
You’ll be asked these questions as part of the online Grant Management System application process, pay close attention to the maximum number of points available!
Applications that do not qualify for fast tracked approval will be assessed by a juried process against this criteria.
Fast Track Applications
- To be considered for fast tracking, applicants must be able to demonstrate current wholesale or consignment agreements with a minimum of four third-party retail outlets and/or galleries.
- The third-party retail outlets and/or galleries must have a primary purpose of promoting and selling craft and visual arts products; or specialize in the promotion and selling of the specific product.
- These applications will not be subject to the external assessment process and will be considered to have met the required criteria.
- Fast tracked applications may be submitted at any time, however, they must meet Creative Saskatchewan’s criteria for this grant, and all production support must be directed toward creating product for the retail outlets or galleries referenced in the supplied agreements.
- Fast tracked applications will be funded in the order that they are received and as the availability of funds allows.
- Applications that do not qualify for fast tracked approval will be assessed by an external assessment process against the Assessment Criteria above.

- It was clarified that articles that require simple assembly of commercially available parts as opposed to skillful manipulation of materials are ineligible.
- The following temporary changes are in place due to COVID-19:
- A restriction that prevented applicants from including both an administration fee and in-house expenses in their project budget has been temporarily removed.
- Please note that the Assessment Criteria has undergone significant structural changes, please review these ahead of application by clicking the ‘Assessment Criteria’ button above.
What happens after I’m approved?
- 80% of your grant is paid when the application is approved. The remaining 20% of your grant is paid after the project is complete and your final report has been approved.
