Creative Saskatchewan is proud to support Art Now and Craft Is as an initiative to make local art and craftsmanship more accessible to the public and grow the craft and visual arts sector.
Here’s what gallery owner Brent Hamel had to say:
“We are Art Now. This is the 10th anniversary of Art Now. Art Now is an event put on by SaskGalleries. SaskGalleries is a membership organization consisting of over 10 Saskatchewan galleries, mostly commercial galleries. We are grateful, grateful for the work of SaskGalleries and the other organizations who make this event come alive. There were folks who attended that were beyond the borders of Saskatchewan and so for our little gallery in Waskesiu, which is seasonal, it was an eye opener and truly a game changer for a small gallery to attend such an event and be beside some of the largest galleries in Saskatchewan and to have that access to that market.
A lot of the artists that you’ll see on the walls are local, from Saskatchewan, representing in Saskatchewan. And there’s a variety, a variety of content, a variety of price points. Our gallery, Black Spruce Gallery features and celebrates the Saskatchewan landscape through their eyes. So our content predominantly the Saskatchewan landscape, whether it’s the memorial forest in the lakes and the rivers in the skies or the prairies, the spots. And that includes the wildlife of Saskatchewan, bears and moose and elk and in a variety all through the eyes of an artist, whether it’s a 2 dimensional piece or it’s 3 dimensional.
We’ve received a number of marketing grants from Creative Saskatchewan. We had a campaign for our new opening in Saskatoon. So that included new material for that, new signs for the exterior of the building in space as well too. We’ve also had grants for upgrading our website and those included website translation and purchasing, purchasing, allowing us to have a commerce site as well too. So it was very interactive for for folks and those grants were just highly used and we were very, very grateful for them.”
