Book Publishing Production Grant - Book Publishers' Stream - Assessment Criteria

The Book Publishers’ Production Grant assists in the production and marketing of titles intended for commercial release.

The Assessment Criteria was approved on April 1, 2023 for the 2023-24 Fiscal Year. Any amendments made after the fact will be posted here:

All criteria are assessed internally by Creative Saskatchewan

1. Demonstrated net sales of own titles in the previous 24 months

Potential points: 6

• Sales between $5,001 to $10,000.00 = 1 point
• Sales between $10,001 to $30,000 = 2 points
• Sales between $30,001 to $50,000 = 4 points
• Sales over $50,001 = 6 points

2. Demonstrated market reach

Potential points: 3

Ways to demonstrate this include distribution lists, distributions agreements, etc.

• Provincial = 0 points
• National = 1 point
• North America = 2 points
• International = 3 points

3. Number of titles produced over the previous 24 months

Potential points: 3

• 6 titles = 1 point
• 7 to 9 titles = 2 points
• 10 or more titles = 3 points

4. Intellectual Property Development

Potential points: 2

Demonstration that properties have been exploited in other platforms within 12 months of application submission date (eBooks do not qualify). 1 point per platform, to a maximum of 2 points.

• Audiobooks
• Film/TV or Interactive Digital options
• Educational guides

5. Media Attention and Awards

Potential points: 3

Within 12 months of application submission date. Sponsored media does not qualify. Minimum of two per each region to receive points.

• Provincial = 1 point
• National = 2 points
• International = 3 points

6. Cultural Diversity

Potential points: 2

The titles being applied for reflect cultural diversity of the province of Saskatchewan in:

• Content being published = 1 point
• Key publishing team members and authors = 1 point

Grant Total Potential Points: 19

Funding Allocations based on awarded points:

• 14 to 19 points: Maximum Creative Saskatchewan grant participation: $80,000 or 50% of the approved budget, whichever amount is less.
• 10 to 13 points: Maximum Creative Saskatchewan grant participation: $80,000 or 35% of the approved budget, whichever amount is less.
• Less than 9 points: Maximum Creative Saskatchewan grant participation: $80,000 or 25% of the approved budget, whichever amount is less.
